Olympia Weekend Announces Record Prize Money, Expanded Expo and Celebrity Appearances!

The fitness industry’s most celebrated tradition returns to Las Vegas September 12-15 with the world’s most prestigious physique titles on the line. Olympia Weekend is set to award more than 1.4 million dollars in prize money, eclipsing its previous mark, making this year’s event the most lucrative bodybuilding and fitness championship of all time. In addition to a $400,000 prize to the Mr. Olympia winner, the event has increased prize money in several other divisions, including all four Olympia women’s competitions.

Chief Olympia Officer Dan Solomon explains, “Despite constant changes in the global fitness community, we’ve remained laser focused, growing the Olympia in every way possible, with increases in overall sponsorships, expo attractions, prize money and stage production.”

When American Media took over management of Olympia Weekend in 2004, the lineup included a total of 63 competitors. Here in 2019, the event will include 176 pro competitors, each receiving flights, hotels, meal allowances, and the chance to compete for their sport’s most lucrative title at the Orleans Arena.

In addition to the Friday and Saturday evening arena production, more than 65,000 fitness enthusiasts will attend the Olympia Fitness & Performance Expo at the Las Vegas Convention Center, featuring many of the fitness industry’s most innovative brands, product giveaways and celebrity appearances, including a confirmed appearance by Mark Wahlberg at the Weider booth.

“Olympia Weekend is an incredible tradition.” Says Wahlberg. “If you attend the Olympia you’ll leave with enough inspiration and energy to fuel an entire year of workouts and I’m excited to showcase my brands there. The Olympia has grown into something really special.”

This year marks the 55th edition of the Mr. Olympia contest. VIP Packages and floor seating at the arena have sold out, but good seats are still available at MrOlympia.com. Expo passes can also be purchased in advance at MrOlympia.com, as well as upon arrival at the convention center.

The main expo stage features the preliminary judging for the Olympia competitions plus a series of events including the OG Pole Fitness Championship, Wheelchair Olympia, a celebration of female bodybuilding presented by Wings of Strength, and the highly anticipated release of the new book by bodybuilding legend Ronnie Coleman. This year’s expo also marks the arrival of a Fit Fashion show, Spartan Race, The Performix Pro Skateboarding Showdown, along with the return of several martial arts, strength and endurance events taking place throughout the two-day expo.

It all gets underway on September 12th as Trifecta Presents Joe Weider’s Olympia Fitness & Performance Weekend brought to you by Wings of Strength. For more information, including updated schedules and tickets, visit MrOlympia.com.

IFBB Professional League President Jim Manion Sets the Record Straight on Olympia Rumors

The bodybuilding rumor mill is always a source of entertainment for the social media crowd. Stories surface everyday giving bloggers plenty to talk about as they attempt to gain clicks and views.  In the last few days rumors started to gain momentum about the IFBB Professional League and its long-standing relationship with Joe Weider’s Olympia Weekend.  NPCNEWSONLINE caught up with IFBB Professional League President Jim Manion to set the record straight on some of the stories.

NPCNEWS:   Jim, is there any truth to a recent rumor about the IFBB Professional League’s commitment to the Olympia?

MANION:  The Olympia will always be the most prestigious and most important event in our sport.  It’s the super bowl of bodybuilding and there are no plans to change that.  There is no title that means more than the Olympia and we are always working to expand the Olympia in every way possible.

NPCNEWS:  We’ve heard stories speculating about the IFBB Professional League’s relationship with AMI, the company that owns the Olympia.  Any truth to those rumors?

MANION:  Absolutely no truth whatsoever.  Our relationship with AMI is stronger than its ever been and I’ve been extremely impressed by the way this year’s Olympia plans are coming together.  The 2019 Olympia Weekend will be big.  New events, great sponsorships, big prize money, and plans are already in full force for the 2020 Olympia and beyond.

NPCNEWS:  But what about stories that another event is in the works that could challenge the Olympia’s status as the #1 event in the world.  Any truth to that?

MANION:  Let’s be clear about one thing.  The IFBB Professional League is growing fast and we never stop working to create opportunities for our athletes.  We are always working to bring new promoters and more fans into the sport in order to keep up with our growth.  The arrival of any new contest has no impact on the Olympia’s status as the world’s premier event.  The Olympia is and will continue to be our most prestigious event and most coveted title.  It’s been that way for 55 years and it will remain that way.

Military Veteran Cedric McMillan Receives
Mr. Olympia Special Invitation
mcmillan_750

Staff Sergeant Cedric McMillan, a career member of the United States Army, has received a special invitation to compete for the title of 2019 Mr. Olympia next month in Las Vegas.  Having served a combined 24 years of active and reserve duty, McMillan found himself on the outside looking in when he came up just short in the Olympia Points Qualifying Standings.

In his formal request to the IFBB Professional League, McMillan explained, “I had planned to compete in one of the summer shows to solidify my position and to hopefully secure a qualification.  But my obligation to participate in several long duration field exercises would not allow the necessary access to food, training or rest required to properly prepare without neglecting my duty to my mission, my soldiers and my country.”

McMillan, who served a combat tour in Iraq in 2003, is a former NPC National Bodybuilding Champion and has competed in each of the last three Mr. Olympia contests finishing as high as 7th.  In 2017 McMillan won the Arnold Classic.

IFBB Pro League President Jim Manion stated, “Cedric’s military duties come first and we completely understand that. We will grant a special invite this year being that those circumstances were out of his control along with our consideration of his notable accomplishments within the IFBB Professional League.”

When asked to comment on the special invitation, McMillan added, “When I compete I’ll be representing my country, all those that work a full time job trying to pursue their dreams, and all of the amazing people at the Lancaster Youth Leadership and Development Program.”- a non-profit organization, created by McMillan to develop the youth of the community with training and activities designed to build character, instill discipline and moral values.

JOE WEIDER’S OLYMPIA FITNESS & PERFORMANCE WEEKEND FUELED BY NEW SPONSORS AND RENEWED VISION

NEW YORK, April 8, 2019 — Joe Weider’s Olympia Fitness & Performance Weekend, the fitness industry’s showcase event, is enjoying significant momentum thus far in 2019 with a flurry of new sponsorship commitments and revenue opportunities.   Gold level VIP Packages have already sold out and individual tickets have just gone on sale for the September 12-15th Las Vegas event.

American Media, LLC Chairman & CEO David J. Pecker explains, “Under the direction of our new Chief Olympia Officer Dan Solomon, the production team is full speed ahead. And with a total prize purse of nearly $1.5 million, including $400,000 to the Mr. Olympia champion, the 2019 Olympia competition is the most lucrative competition in the category, by a wide margin. I’m also excited to share that plans are currently in the works to increase prize money for the women’s events to an all-time high.”

Mr. Solomon added that his focus is on elevating the overall fan experience. “The Olympia Expo, a central part of the weekend, has emerged as a destination for the most innovative and respected health and fitness companies to showcase their products,” he said.  Held at the Las Vegas Convention Center, this year’s expo will welcome an even broader cross-section of the global fitness movement.  American Media’s newsstand presence and digital media properties, with an audience reach of more than 120 million, are positioning this year’s Olympia to be the most heavily promoted fitness event of all time.

As part of a plan to bring a fresh set of eyes to the overall production, Solomon recently named Tamer El-Guindy to serve as the event’s producer. Widely considered one of the fitness industry’s most experienced event promoters, El-Guindy will oversee the execution of the five-day event. Long time Muscle & Fitness and Flex Magazine insider Angelica Nebbia has been promoted to Olympia Coordinator while Cayden Riley moves into the role of Olympia Communications Director.

Jim Manion, president of the NPC and the IFBB Professional League adds, “It’s only April and we’re already seeing a lot of excitement building around this year’s Olympia. Looking forward to seeing our NPC and Pro League family in Vegas in September. This is one you don’t want to miss.” Manion added that Robin Chang, formerly the producer of Olympia Weekend, will now transition to a full-time role as International Director for the NPC Worldwide and the IFBB Professional League and will oversee coordination and scheduling for the global expansion of the two organizations.

“The Olympia started out simply as a bodybuilding contest,” says Mr. Solomon. “As the years passed, it grew into a weekend-long fitness extravaganza.  Now, in its 55th year, the Olympia stands tall as a global brand, an international symbol of achievement, and one of the fitness industry’s most prestigious and celebrated traditions. Keep an eye out for some exciting announcements in the coming weeks.”
