Jo Jo, your disdain for change and historical refinement - wrought by the emergence of new facts and increased understanding/context as a result - is well known... and sour grapes, at that.

I have come to know Eric Weider since the 1st issue of Armchair General Magazine through his actual personal interactions, expressions, questions and historical offerings - as just another member of the magazine websites Forums - and found him to be far more accessible by any individual which might choose to become a member of that community. Throughout the Forums entire existence, I have seen many cases of his concern for another member when hardship has become known, babies have been born, kids have graduated... I could go on for quite some time.

In that history is ever changing as new discoveries occur, so, too, must our knowledge and understanding of it or mankind becomes mired in the repetitive inaccuracies that predominate when change is automatically judged to be wrong because newly established realities challenge strongly held views of 'how things oughta be' - regardless of evidence to the contrary. Such desire and perseverance to maintain true understanding and bring it ever more into the mainstream venues which can illuminate and educate increasingly more individuals and new generations takes guts.

In a nutshell, Eric is one of the most genuinely honest and sincere individuals I have ever had the pleasure of coming to know.

Quite simply... Eric has guts!

I had the pleasure of speaking to Eric and to co-operate on a few projects. The best of the projects was the sending of copies of the book MBrothers of Iron to troops aboard ship and in Afghanistan. Nothing has been written about it. But, it was done. A special kind of man.

Armchair General was a great magazine for its target audience. However, since he acquired these other military and history magazines, he has ruined a major portion of the American history magazine market. Gone are the days of great insight of historical topics. Now these magazines only publish shallow general articles and book reviews/excerpts. It saddens me deeply that a 20 year legacy of these magazines are slowly dying and disappearing from store shelves because Weider wanted the magazines to focus on general historical events.
