I met Clancy at his Mr America Club in Walnut Creek in the late 1970's. He was a gentleman and was very kind to me. I remember his huge wrists,,,he was a very larged boned man with a deep resonating voice. As I only came down to visit a friend occasionally, he let me work out for free.
I have good memories….rest in peace old friend.

I know I'm really late posting this, but I just want to say that Clancy Ross was a fantastic inspiration to countless "old timers" like me. I remember reading that Clancy's physical measurements were similar (but slightly larger than those claimed by Charles Atlas, Yet Clancy looked vastly different. he was truly in a class of his own. I actually knew Charles Atlas Jr – the son of the famous muscle man who also passed away in 2008 aged 89. He served in the US Navy during WW2 like Clancy.

I met Clancy Ross in June of 1978 when I bought a Summer membership at his Clancy Ross Mr America Club gym in Walnut Creek, California. I had come home for the summer in between school years at california State University Chico where I boxed and was looking for some other form of exercise to stay fit. I discovered weight lifting at Clancy's club, primarily because my old high school friend had become an instructor there and remain grateful to this day that I did. I renewed my membership every summer until I graduated.
Clancy used to talk about being in a movie entitled "So You Want To Be A Muscle Man" back then. I finally discovered that in fact it was a short in the Joe McDoakes series and found it in The Complete Joe McDoakes Collection at Amazon.com where I wrote a review. He acted quite well in "So You Wanna Be A Muscle Man."

I met Clancy one time in 1952, and he was a great guy! I always thought he would have made a great Superman, with his rugged good looks and super body.

Hi Lance! Your tribute to your father was really, really nice. I am your father’s first wife (Jacky’s) niece. Carol Ross’s cousin Peg. I remember when you were born….I can see you look alot like your father. (Both handsome men). I have some wonderful memories of Uncle Clancy and your own very sweet Mother having me to their home in San Lorenzo. I used to play with Rene….Your father was best man at my own parent’s wedding.
